The Martinus Route is a European Cultural Route. The Dutch part of the route runs along churches, fortresses and inundation zones. The connecting element is Saint Martin. He joined the army as a Roman soldier, and became famous for sharing his cloak with a beggar at the gates of Amiens. Martinus, warrior and peacemaker, became the symbol for sharing and solidarity.
